A  portrait of my children every week for a year.

Esther: We've had another week where her language skills seem to have exploded again. More complicated sentences and great communication. It's so good knowing what is happening in her head, even if it is non-stop. She has learnt to say "Angela" this week, and yesterday said "monkey" for the first time, up until now she's had her own word "cody." She's also using an extra squeaky voice when speaking on behalf of her doll, and has learnt how to be a drama queen - sliding down the squabs from the sofa just now she's saying "oh, oh, me falling down slide!"

Reuben: I have been working hard on the idea of understanding emotions, and Reuben's kindy teacher encouraged me to tell him when he makes me happy, not just when I'm mad. Something clicked for him this week, and on Saturday he said "I want to be good." "Why?" I asked. "Because I want to make you happy," he replied. And wow, he has been amazing. I have seen him pulling back so often from doing the "wrong" thing to getting it right. We've talked about it quite a lot and had some really significant moments (see my comment at the bottom of Seeing Red). The boy is sublime. Still hard work at times, but sublime.
